If you wear disposable gloves frequently, you might wear gloves made on the road in Fayette.

Showa Gloves has been operating there since 1972, producing 400 million gloves each year. But due to the new expansion, they will triple this number by the end of 2022.

The company is responsible for ensuring that DCH Health System has enough gloves during the COVID-19 pandemic, even if the global supply chain collapses.

Andy North, DCH's vice president of marketing and communications, stated that Showa is introducing a new production line, so DCH went to check it this week.

"Part of the reason we are there is to consider the possibility of including at least a small part (new gloves) in our overall strategy so that if we encounter shortages in the future, we will have local resources," North said.

The expansion means that the Fayette factory can produce up to 2 million gloves per day.
