When preparing for pruning with my orchard saw and good pruning shears, wear nice, dry gloves-this is a vital component, because the next few months are the best time for pruning. They make beautiful gifts. (Andrew May/The Peninsula Daily)

So the rain must continue. Frost fell on us again, and the ice rink in Port Angeles began to operate. Go on and have fun!

This week, when family and friends sit around the table in person or through Zoom, the preparations for Thanksgiving begin. Then, we go to Christmas shopping!

It is very important that this year we are more supportive of our local stores and suppliers than ever before, because the pandemic has already caused losses.

They have always been by our side, so now let us exist for them!

Since gardening is so popular and fortunately we have such a wide range of exquisite items and prices, I will rate my top plant loot holiday gifts, which will definitely make any gardener happy.

1. Atlas gloves, 4 to 12 dollars. These gardening gloves breathe, so they don't smell, and they are very flexible and agile-you can button shirts, plant seedlings or handle heavy work. I just bought a pair of bright orange thick linings on my birthday.

2. Amaryllis, US$4-25. The perfect sock filling, exquisite party gifts, exquisite gifts, the fun of amaryllis is to watch the bulb grow and bloom in front of your eyes, and finally form a huge 4 to 6 inch, strong color trumpet flower. Even better, even the darkest thumb can successfully bloom (force) the indestructible amaryllis bulb.

3. Apron, 5 to 25 dollars. This gardening tool is seriously neglected and is far from being used. It can keep your front part dry and clean during the rainy, muddy, and algae-infested seasons. This is the outfit of a professional gardener—especially an apron with beautiful pockets for pens, pencils, scissors, and Atlas gloves.

4. Big head, 19 to 28 dollars. Few tools are more popular than Dramm aluminum (not plastic models) water cutoffs. Spend money on this tool, or use an atomizing nozzle instead. These all-brass tube heads are perfect for anyone who owns a greenhouse or a gardener who sows a lot of seeds or propagates, because this is what they are for.

5. Bucket with tool cover, $25. Multi-purpose combination, the 5-gallon bucket is perfect for weeds, soil, fertilizer, dead ends or gravel. The exquisite canvas cover can hold your Felco pruning shears, scissors, hand trowel, small rake, weeding hoe, Atlas gloves and orchard saw-an all-in-one machine with a built-in handle. Become a real Santa, buy and fill up all the inserts.

6. Orchard saw, US$19 to US$65. The poor man's chainsaw, this gardening tool miracle is an absolute must for anyone who trims.

7. Felco pruning shears, 48 to 69 dollars. I just need to include them in any list, because they are number one among the best trimmers ever made in the world. Get left-handed, small blade, pivot handle or pneumatic models. I recommend using the exquisite ornamental No. 6.

8. Grub (maddox). This tool is a steroid pick, it can also complete the athlete's steroid work. Ideal for cutting ditches, eradicating a crabgrass or destroying thistle, it can crush turf and soil. Buy the highest quality products, because your muscles are the limit of this tool.

9. Ditching shovel. With its long (18-24 inches or more) and thin blade, this shovel is ideal for digging around rocks or roots, or digging a deep ball on plants for transplantation. Be sure to buy one with a rolling stop pad, otherwise your arch will resist due to pain.

10. Be friends. The best gift you can give is yourself and one day (or two days) of work to those in need. This is really the spirit of Christmas, so please consider this wonderful gift. There are many elderly people who have gone through difficult times, and having strong hands and backs around the garden may be the most considerate and appreciated gift.

11. Load soil, mulch or compost. Every gardener on the peninsula where the topsoil is scarce will cherish a large amount of deep, fertile, dark organic soil. Give gifts that few people would buy for themselves, even if they desperately need it.

12. Gift certificates and day trips. Providing gift certificates to your favorite gardener's most valuable supplier is ideal, because each of us lives with a child. Who doesn't want to entrust it in a candy store called a nursery or a greenhouse? Persist in helping to load the car and spend the day-friends and gifts turn into a perfect day.

And please... everything is fine!
