Demi Lovato celebrated the release of their emotional new single, "Skin of My Teeth," last night in New York City.

To the launch event, held in Times Square, the singer—who identifies as nonbinary—wore black vinyl pants and a long-sleeved crop top. The pants had images of Sissy Spacek, from Stephen King's horror classic Carrie, printed down each leg.

They finished the edgy rocker look with black platform boots, silver earrings, and black vinyl gloves. Their mullet was given the "wet look" treatment, and they opted for a bold smoky eye shadow look and a matte nude lip.

Lovato posed for photos in front of their digital billboard promoting the powerful rock track. In the song, they address what it's like living with addiction, and at one point, say they escaped death and are "alive by the skin of my teeth."

The first verse goes: "Demi leaves rehab again / When is this shit gonna end? / Sounds like the voice in my head / I can't believe I'm not dead."

Lovato has previously opened up about becoming sober following their near-fatal overdose in 2018. The singer said in their YouTube documentary series, Dancing with the Devil, that the incident—in which they took a mixture of opioids laced with fentanyl—led them to have three strokes and a heart attack, and that doctors told them they had been five to 10 minutes away from death. The overdose also left Lovato with brain damage, they said, "And I still feel the effects of that." The side effects include blurry vision, which makes them unable to drive and makes reading difficult.

Lovato said in their docuseries, "I've had a lot of lives, like a cat. I'm on my ninth life."
