King Charles III will welcome South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to the U.K. for three days of high-level talks next month, celebrating the first state visit of his reign with the leader of a Commonwealth member with close ties to the royal family. Ramaphosa has accepted Charles’s invitation for a state visit from Nov. 22-24. Buckingham Palace said the South African leader will be accompanied by his wife, Dr. Tshepo Motsepe. Charles has visited South Africa on several occasions since 1997. Sunday in St. Louis had a festive feel and was supposed to be about a coronation of Cardinals stars, the formal feting of Adam Wainwright, Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina in their final regular-season home game.

“Saturday Night Live” kicked off its 48th season with a cold open that acknowledged an off-season of change in which several stars departed and a team of newcomers joined the huddle.

Albert Pujols slammed his 702nd career home run and drove in three runs in the Cardinals' 7-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Pujols also had a two-run double in the first. He moved into a tie with Babe Ruth for second on the all-time RBI list with 2,214. Hank Aaron leads the way with 2,297. Ben Gamel and Bryan Reynolds homered for Pittsburgh, which has won four of six. The Cardinals won 26 of their final 34 home games. It was the final home regular-season game for Pujols and catcher Yadier Molina, who are both retiring after the season. Molina and pitcher Adam Wainwright started their 328th game together.

Haiti’s government says at least eight people have died from cholera for the first time in three years, raising concerns about another potential catastrophic epidemic like the one that broke out a decade ago and killed nearly 10,000 people. The cases were reported in a community called Dekayet in southern Port-au-Prince and in the seaside slum of Cite de Soleil, where thousands of people live in cramped, unsanitary conditions. The deaths announced Sunday come as a lack of fuel and ongoing protests shut down the availability of basic services across Haiti, including medical care and clean water, which is key to helping fight cholera and keep patients alive.

CHICAGO — A 7-year-old boy was shot Sunday morning in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood while in a vehicle with his family as they were heading to a church service, police said.

More than 2,000 soldiers and police surrounded and closed off a town in El Salvador in order to search for street gang members accused in a killing. The large-scale encirclement of the town of Comasagua is the latest example of heavy-handed tactics by the government to root out street gangs. President Nayib Bukele wrote in his Twitter account Sunday that members of the MS-13 gang were believed to still be inside Comasagua, about 20 miles (30 kms) from the capital, San Salvador. Bukele requested Congress grant him extraordinary powers after gangs were blamed for 62 killings on March 26, and that decree has been renewed every month since then.
