The event kicked off on Saturday at 8 a.m., with volunteers signing in at the staging area under the Via Princessa bridge at the riverbed on Wiley Canyon Road.

Volunteers picked up supplies for clean-up such as trash bags and gloves, and then began filing into the river bed for the pick-up.

Multiple drop-off centers were stationed in the riverbed and each was full of orange trash bags by the time the event concluded at 11 a.m.

The clean-up of the river helps to protect species such as the California red-legged frog and California condor.

There were several booths set up for volunteers to engage with, including a booth from the Placerita Nature Center with live animals that drew volunteers.

Local Santa Clarita organizations and small businesses had featured booths for volunteers to view and get information about what they do.

Environment-themed crafts were available for participants as well and a long line could be seen at the Italian Ice booth as volunteers stopped for a treat after their work.

This year marked the city’s 27th annual River Rally Event. It marks the second year that the rally has taken on its original form after having been reduced to a remote clean-up during the COVID-19 pandemic.
